The course is part of the educational offer of the study course: [LT40] in languages, cultures and societies of Asia and Mediterranean Africa, with two modules divided into the two semesters. Teaching is one of those that characterize the "Japan" and "Korea" curricula. The training objectives are part of the area of language skills.
The course aims to introduce basic grammar structures and develop language skills in the context of simple communication situations (Level A1 of the CEFR). It is designed for students who are interested in learning the Mandarin Chinese language, with the aim of providing the first tools and skills in the linguistic-translation field for basic communication.

At the end of the course the student will be able to critically understand and use elementary structures of the Chinese language, achieving a level of language proficiency equivalent to level A1 of the CEFR (Common European framework of reference for language proficiency). Specific objectives are: knowledge and understanding and their applications, including phonology, pinyin transcription system, basic grammar, writing rules, the ability to master a lexicon of about 350 words and 300 characters; Ability to judge, i.e. how to use the tools and digital resources made available on moodle; Communication skills, i.e. how to make use of proper terminology, and know how to interact in a respectful way; learning skills, i.e. to develop a relational way to address the different contexts of study and shape an integrated view of the knowledge and skills acquired.
A very good theoretical and practical knowledge of the Italian language is mandatory to attend the course, particularly oral and written expressions, grammatical analysis and logical analysis.

The final grade is the calculated average resulting from the two individual modules of the first and the second exam at the end of each semester.
The verification of acquired abilities and skills is carried out through a written exam (grammar: fill in the blank, traslation from Italian into Chinese and viceversa, order sentences, match characters with pinyin and tone). The exam consists of a 50-minute test based on grammar and lexical structures of the units discussed in class and on the material available on the online platform.
Teaching is organized in lectures; writing and conversation practice through the experiential learning and group work aimed at building and consolidating the knowledge, skills and competences necessary to meet the goal of the course; use of digital instruments.
