Contribution of the course to the overall degree programme goals
Its educational objectives fall within the area of learning language skills, as well as cultural and humanities. Students will gain in-depth knowledge not only of the languages but also of the cultures and societies of these regions. The course aims to provide a comprehensive understanding not only of linguistic structures but also of the cultural contexts in which these languages are spoken. This way, students can develop a critical and informed perspective on Asian languages, opening new opportunities both academically and professionally.

Upon completion of this Vietnamese course, students will have achieved the following objectives:
- Interpretative Communication:
• Listening Skills: can develop the ability to comprehend slow, clear spoken Vietnamese in everyday contexts, such as greetings, introductions, and basic questions.
• Reading Skills: can read and understand simple written texts, including signs, labels, and basic sentences; can identify familiar words and phrases.
- Interpersonal Communication:
• Speaking Skills: can gain confidence in initiating and participating in basic conversations; can master essential phrases and expressions for greetings, self-introduction, and asking and answering basic questions.
• Writing Skills: can write short, simple sentences and messages, can practice writing personal information, such as your name, nationality, and basic descriptions.
- Presentational Communication:
• Speaking Presentations: can introduce yourself and provide basic information about your background and interests in a clear and concise manner.
• Writing Presentations: can develop the skill to compose brief written messages, such as postcards or simple notes, with a focus on clarity and accuracy.
- Intercultural Communication:
• Introduction to Culture: can gain an initial understanding of Vietnamese culture, customs, and everyday practices.
• Cultural Sensitivity: can engage respectfully with native speakers from Vietnam, appreciating cultural differences and employing polite language and etiquette.

The final oral exam: 40%

The evaluation criteria for this course are as follows: The partial written exam accounts for 60% of the total grade, while the final oral exam contributes 40%. Together, they make up the complete 100% assessment.
The written examination has a duration of 60 minutes, while the oral examination spans 15-20 minutes, adjusting based on the number of students undertaking the assessment.

- Audio and Written Journal (Highly Recommended): We encourage each one of you to maintain a weekly journal that includes both spoken and written entries. You can record an audio file and also jot down a short written entry.
