The course is part of the related and supplementary courses of the master's degree course in “HOSPITALITY”. Awareness of historical practice and theories on Museums and their restoration contribute to the improvement of the transversal skills of the learners in the management and curatorial fields for Hospitality.

-Awareness of the main theoretical issues concerning the discipline of Museology;
-improvement of a critical approach to primary and secondary sources about Museums;
-improvement of a critical approach to Museums and their display;
-a critical approach to the contemporary world;
-ability to do research and to communicate results.
A basic knowledge in History of Western Art would be a plus.
WEEK 1
SOME INSIGHTS OF THEORY

WEEK 1 – for a THEORY OF MUSEUM
• Oxford Dictionary: a [common] DEFINITION of MUSEUM
• THE ICOM: The SCIENTIFIC definition of MUSEUM: PRAGUE 2022
• TRAVELLING WITH THE MUSES:
- The gentle art to display
- A Time-line for a History in collecting.

The use of a holy building as a contemporary art venue.

“our National Gallery in Venice”: The National Heritage, History of Art and the chronological display. Introduction/visit/shared analysis

To prepare the exam: Essays and Didactic tools uploaded on moodle.
ORAL EXAM METHOD: the candidate is required to answer three questions on three topics of the program, each answer is assigned a score from 0 to 10 (for each question the following will be evaluated by the Teacher: The acquisition of disciplinary contents: 3 points / The mastery of a specific vocabulary: 3 points/ The ability to argue and critically re-elaborate the contents: 3 points/ The maturation of a global vision of the discipline: 1 point)
the final grade comes from the sum of the three scores.
'Lode' (Distinction) is a plus at the discretion of the teacher.
Participation in group work (only for those attending) contributes to the FINAL MARK TO THE EXTENT OF 20% without, however, jeopardizing the possibility of obtaining the maximum score even for those who cannot attend the lessons/are not interested in taking part. to the laboratory section of the course.
Non-attending students
Non-attending students are evaluated ONLY on the basis of the final oral exam, they DO NOT prepare a seminar presentation.
