The aim of the course (which is part of the basic ones of the three-year degree in history and is mandatory for its archive-librarian address) is to provide students with the ability to search, select, evaluate and use bibliographic information and documents both in the library and on the Internet.
At the end of the course the students will be able to use bibliographies, library catalogs, digital libraries and search engines to retrieve information and documents useful to take exams and to prepare the thesis.
No particular prerequisites are necessary, if not the knowledge of the Italian language and a suitable cultural level for a university freshman.
The tools and the fundamental strategies for information retrieval, especially bibliographic information, in paper and digital environments. Particular attention will be given to libraries' electronic catalogues (OPACs) and to online bibliographic databases

Three open-ended questions to be answered in written form in 45 minutes. The questions will instead be 4 (to be answered in 60 minutes) for those who will not support the mid-course test that will be done online, by writing a short text on a course topic.

To take part in the course students must register on the Ca 'Foscari e-learning platform (http://moodle.unive.it/ ).

The lessons are scheduled "in the virtual classroom" on certain days because each course must necessarily have a timetable, but this indication is purely administrative, because the lessons consist of a series of teaching materials (which are put online at the beginning of the week and to which students can access at any time until the end of the course) and in a forum for discussion (constantly available from the beginning to the end of the course). So the course can also be followed by those who can not be online on certain days of the week.
