The course is part of the base disciplines, curriculum of Archaeology, Bachelor's Degree programme in Conservation of Cultural Heritage and Performing Arts Management.
The course belongs to the sectors of archaeological learning, with a specific subject connected with the culture of the written text and classical language of pharaonic Egypt. The course will provide the basic tools for the comprehension of a text in classical Egyptian language, together with basic knowledge of the textual culture and literature (on-line part).
This knowledge contributes to the basic competences in a wider frame of historical-archaeological disciplines.
At the end of the course, the student of Egittologia II will acquire basic skills in language and writing culture of the pharaonic Egypt. These skills are part of the curriculum of “Archeologia”, specifically Ancient Near East, and are connected with the disciplines of the Ancient Near East and the ancient Mediterranean.
Attendance to the course of Egyptology I (see Other). Attendance to the courses on the ancient Mediterranean and ancient Near East is highly suggested.
Elements of written culture and Middle Egyptian grammar for reading a text. Introduction to the sources, with analysi and comprehension of documents (copies provided during the lessons).
Writing culture in pharaonic Egypt; introduction to the Egyptian literature.

Aims
- Ability in the comprehension of a Muddle Egyptian text.
- Basic knowledge of writing culture, as part of wider skills in the historical-archaeological context.
Maturity in the approach to the ancient Egyptian culture.
Middle Egyptian grammar and writing culture: Ciampini, La lingua dell’Antico Egitto.
Literature and written culture: On-line part of the course; Buzi, La letteratura egiziana antica.

Attendance is highly recommended.
Attendance to the on-line part of the course (Egyptian literature) is part of the exam programme.
The exam of Egyptology II can be taken only after the exam of Egyptology I.
Exam of Egyptology 12 CFU (FT0054): the exam of Egyptology II is the second and final part of the whole exam; for the first part of the exam (always written), see Egyptology I.
Students interested in the Ancient Near East may also choose:
History of the Ancient Near East, Assiriology, Archaeology and Art History of the Ancient Near East, Semitic Philology, Phenician-Punic Archaeology, Prehistory and protohistory of the eastern Mediterranean.
Graduation thesis: attendance and exams “Egyptology I” and “Egyptology II”; average grade not lesser than 25/30.
