The course provides elemental skills in archival science, library science, and bibliography. It focuses on tools and methods for identifying, consulting, using, describing, and digitizing archival and library heritage.
By the end of the course, students are expected to acquire the following knowledge and skills:

1. A basic understanding of the history, legislation, and organization of archives and libraries in Italy.
2. Knowledge of information systems, catalogs, guides, inventories, and other resources for archival and bibliographic research.
3. Familiarity with descriptive and cataloguing tools and methods for archival and bibliographic material.
4. Ability to plan and accomplish a digitization and metadating project.
5. Knowledge of the main methods and tools for researching both archival and bibliographic digital information and resources.
Requisites for the course include an overall knowledge of Italian political, institutional, and administrative history, particularly regarding the modern and contemporary age.
Course content:

1. Definitions and principles of archival science, library science, and bibliography;
2. History of archives and libraries in Italy;
3. Organization and legislation of archives and libraries in Italy;
4. Principles, methods, and tools for the management and description of the archival heritage;
5. Tools and methods for digitization and metadating;
6. Use of archival and bibliographic digital information and resources;
7. Legislation on privacy, right of access, and copyright.

The assessment of acquired skills will be carried out through an oral exam. A rating scale out of 30 will be used as follows:

A. Scores in the range of 18-22 will be set for:
- Sufficient understanding of the topics covered during the course;
- Limited ability to information processing;
- Sufficient communication skills, particularly in the use of specific language in the fields of archival science, library science, and bibliography

B. Scores in the range of 23-27 will be set for:
- Fair understanding of the topics covered during the course;
- Fair ability to process information;
- Fair communication skills, particularly in the use of specific language in the fields of archival science, library science, and bibliography.

C. Scores in the range of 28-30 will be set for:
- Good to excellent understanding of the topics covered during the course;
- Good to excellent ability to process information;
- Good to excellent communication skills, particularly in the use of specific language in the fields of archival science, library science, and bibliography.

D. Honors will be awarded for excellent knowledge and applied understanding of the program, together with excellent analysis and communication skills.
