The course aims to strengthen students' ability to translate texts into Italian from Chinese, and vice versa, as well as to exploit the skills of reflection on language and the methodological tools acquired for linguistic analysis and for inter-linguistic comparison.
1. Knowledge and understanding
- Knowledge of the terminology related to modern Chinese grammar and the fundamental linguistic terminology for translation.
- Acquiring skills in language analysis and its rhetorical devices, with particular reference to Chinese.
2. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding
- Being able to perform linguistic analysis on various aspects of one's native language and Chinese, taking into account the universal properties of language and the parameters of interlinguistic variation concerning specific phenomena.
3. Judgment skills
- Knowing how to formulate and argue hypotheses, also developing a critical approach to the evaluation of alternative hypotheses.
4. Communication skills
- Acquiring the ability to discuss topics related to contemporary cultural and social issues using appropriate terminology.
- Knowing how to interact with peers and the tutor, in a critical and respectful manner, both in-person and on the virtual classroom forum.
5. Learning skills
- Knowing how to take notes and share them collaboratively on the online platform.

He understands a wide range of complex and long texts and can recognize their implicit meaning. It expresses itself with ease and naturalness. Use the language flexibly and effectively for social, professional and academic purposes. He is able to produce clear, well-constructed, detailed texts on complex subjects, showing a sure control of the textual structure, connectors and elements of cohesion.
Advanced knowledge of the grammar of modern Chinese and mastery of the Italian language.
The course develops the ability to understand, analyze, and translate Chinese texts on contemporary sociocultural topics. Specifically, it offers:

a) 30 hours of theory and practice in understanding, linguistic analysis, and translation of Chinese texts. The texts examined will be extracted from academic essays and newspapers, allowing for a deep dive into the topics discussed and the refinement of linguistic skills related to complex grammatical structures in written Chinese. The topics covered will include the importance of psychological well-being (mental health, 心理健康 xīnlǐ jiànkāng), work-life balance (工作与生活的平衡 gōngzuò yǔ shēnghuó de pínghéng), and the rights and achievements of the LGBTQ community (LGBTQ 性少数群体 xìng shǎoshù qúntǐ).

b) 60 hours of conversation in Chinese (A);

c) 60 hours of translation from Chinese to Italian (B).

The language skills acquired will be assessed through three tests:

- Written translation from Chinese to Italian: Students will independently translate an unpublished text from an academic essay or a newspaper on the socio-cultural topics covered during the course.
-Translation from Italian to Chinese.
- Conversation in Chinese with a native-speaking instructor.

The assessment methods remain the same for students who do not attend classes.
The teaching is organized in:
a) lectures
b) practical exercises aimed at building and consolidating the knowledge, skills and competences that the course aims for;
c) tutoring aimed at discussing and deepening the specific language problems that emerged during the course and related exercises.
