The course is aimed at bachelor's degree students with the objective of covering the lineaments and principles of transportation economics and international trade in order to enable a proper understanding of the dynamics that govern the operation and development of port systems.

The approach will be highly globalized considering port dynamics on a global scale.

The workshop will be coordinated by Luigi Capoani and will welcome talks by international experts identified in coordination with the Venice Port Authority.

The course will take place in the third and fourth class periods, so as to allow participants sufficient time to produce in-depth and quality work.
To provide students with the tools to interpret the port function from a holistic perspective with respect to the complex of economic activities that characterize trade and the "value chain."
Participants will be expected to produce a professionally oriented paper on a topic of interest to port systems during the workshop.
Have attended introductory courses in micro and macroeconomics.
The main theme of the course will be the role of ports in the dynamics of economic development and evolution of the territory in which it is embedded.

Multiple evidences and international experiences suggest that, far from being mere transit hubs for goods and people, ports play a relevant role in both triggering and sustaining broader economic development processes that affect the specializations of the territory.

The course will also enable students to understand the interrelationships between global economic/trade dynamics (such as the analysis of the most important choke points or international tariff policy) with the functioning of port systems and the territories they serve.
