The course focuses on the main concepts relating to the role that tourism plays in transforming territories, both from the socio-economic and environmental perspectives. It offers knowledge and theoretical tools useful for interpreting the geographical dimension of tourism phenomena, discussing some of the ways in which places are transformed by tourism. The course also provides elements of the evolution of international tourism markets and flows.
The instructional goal of the course is that of developing knowledge about:
- the importance of tourism as lever of local and regional change change
- the complexity of the relationship between tourism, environment and territory
- The role that environmental problems and climate change can play in conditioning tourism development

The achievement of specific practical and applied skills will concern:
- assessment of coastal environments an landscapes as tourism and recreation assets.
- the role that environmental resources have in planning tourist development.
- the role that governance has in promoting sustainable tourism practices.

Written test, with 6 open-questions; it lasts 90 minutes. Each answer is worth of 5 points (out of 30)
The exam aims at verifying students' preparation on the topics of the course, as well as their ability to use these concepts to interpret and summarize the main trends which affect the evolution of tourism with reference to the issue of territorial and environmental governance.
Teaching will be in presence with frontal lectures and seminars.
