The e-tourism course addresses the evolutionary steps of the application of ICTs (Information and Communication Technologies) to the tourism sector and the consequent implications on the tourism system, the business models, the relationship with demand. The educational objective of the course, in fact, is to provide students with knowledge relating to both the theoretical foundations and the applications in the components of its extended supply chain: from destinations to the individual elements of the overall experience. The course is in line with the international curricula on e-tourism, with the aim of preparing students both on the state of the art and on the most advanced frontiers to independently face the innovative challenges underway.
Students will acquire knowledge of the key aspects on e-tourism, their evolution and application to the main stakeholders of the tourism system, also in relation to the new challenges emerging in the latest developments of this sector. Students will be given the opportunity to achieve an ability to analyze and understand the internal and external environment, i.e. the stakeholders and their relationships, to make the best choices to apply the appropriate ICTs tools according to the stated objectives. Interactive participation will be fostered in the classroom to encourage students to enhance their critical judgment skills, through the formulation of alternative hypotheses, also contributing to strengthen their communication skills. They will be allowed to develop research skills of studies, reports, and official/alternative data to support their arguments as well as to improve evaluation skills on the reliability and applicability of the selected sources. Students will also be able to understand how to activate tools for measuring tourism sustainability through big data usage.
