The course is characterizing of several Master's Degrees in Humanities. The objective of the course is to provide advanced knowledge in bibliographic methodologies, history of the book and of information.
The course has three main objectives:
1. To approach the study of the function of writing and its relationship to orality in a historical perspective;
2. To approach the study of the history of the book, intended as a medium of communication, cultural object and repository of knowledge.
3. To illustrate in their historical evolution the bibliographical and catalographic tools that record the production of printed books: from Renaissance catalogues to the current on-line databases. The first part of the course will be devoted to training in the complex use of these research tools.

No specific prerequisites are required.

The written exam is a short essay (3000/3500 words) on a topic among those treated in class and in its discussion.
The course is seminar-based and requires the active participation of students.
