Students will be able to develop and deepen the knowledge acquired during the three-year degree in the field of Dante studies by focusing on the philological problems of Dante's texts.
The student must demonstrate that he/she has acquired the indispensable knowledge in the field of text criticism by making use of the main bibliographical tools; he/she must show that he/she is able to apply this knowledge to texts of Italian literature written in Latin and in Italian; he/she must acquire the ability to interpret and judge a critical edition, paying particular attention to the scientific problems connected with the method of restoring the text; must be able to communicate the information acquired, illustrate the relative problems and possible solutions, in such a way that they can also be understood in a non-specialist context; must demonstrate the ability to adequately tackle more advanced studies aimed at the philological investigation of texts.



A knowledge of thirteenth- and fourteenth-century Italian literature.
The course will be dedicated to the tradition of Dante Alighieri's works and the analysis of the most important critical editions, and will focus in particular on some minor texts: the 'Fiore' and the 'Monarchia'
