Didattica dell'italiano can be attended by students wishing to pursue a teaching career. The aim of the course is to provide students with the methodological tools for teaching Italian in middle and high schools. The course will focus on the following main topics: the origin and development of reflection on the teaching of the mother tongue; normative sources for the teaching of Italian language; types of linguistic rules and the nature of grammar; teaching methodologies; teaching writing.
At the end of the course, students will be able to identify and select teaching methods, techniques and materials suitable for achieving the learning outcomes envisaged by the regulations in the various school orders and grades for the teaching of Italian. They will know how to orientate themselves in relation to the main linguistic tasks required of Italian teachers: teaching grammar; guiding students in understanding and analysing texts; stimulating the development of writing skills.
Knowledge of Italian language is required. Any uncertainties or gaps in knowledge of grammar can be filled by resorting to the following volume: M. Prandi/C. De Santis, Grammatica italiana essenziale e ragionata, Turin, Utet, 2020.
Part of the course will be devoted to reflecting on school legislation starting with the so called Indicazioni nazionali. The notions of linguistic mistake and linguistic rule will then be reflected upon, with attention to the various methodological models. The main tasks required of the Italian teacher will also be presented and discussed: teaching students to reflect on language (the concept of "metalinguistic reflection", which extends the traditional notion of "grammar"); developing tools and conceptual categories that enable teaching of writing; promoting inclusive teaching that is sensitive to gender inequalities, learning disorders, plurilingualism and pluriculturalism.
Attending students:
- Daniele D'Aguanno, Insegnare l'italiano scritto, Roma, Carocci, 2019;
- other material provided during the lessons.

Non-attending students:
- Daniele D'Aguanno, Insegnare l'italiano scritto, Roma, Carocci, 2019;
- L. Cignetti, S. Demartini, S. Fornara, M. Viale, Didattica dell'italiano come lingua prima, Bologna, il Mulino, 2022.

Both attending and non-attending students who have not taken any exam in the field of Linguistics will add the following volume:
- M. Prandi, C. De Santis, Grammatica italiana essenziale e ragionata, Torino, UTET, 2020.
The final learning assessment consists of an oral interview on the topics covered in the course. The mastery of the contents and the linguistic and lexical accuracy will be assessed. The assessment criteria respond to different levels of ability: from the minimum level of uncertain knowledge of the contents to the highest level of in-depth knowledge of the contents, ability to critically reorganise them and excellent expository competence. Any presentations made or papers written during the course will contribute to the overall assessment.
The course includes lectures with the support of multimedia tools (Word, Power Point, etc.), during which the active participation of students will be stimulated. Part of the course may be set in seminar mode, with students presenting in-depth studies on topics agreed upon with the lecturer.
