The course will investigate the different areas of intervention of the Social Worker. Starting from the regulatory framework, the practices relating to work with fragile adults will be analysed, including people with disabilities, the elderly, migrants, peaple with pathological addictions. Furthermore the practices relating to work with families, young people and the protection of minors.
The student must be able to:
- know and understand the methodologies, tools and practices of the areas of intervention illustrated
- know and understand the main regulatory sources (national and regional) concerning the various areas of intervention
- know and understand the organization and procedures of the public organizations in which the Social Worker works
- apply this knowledge in the professional field using the social service methodology and knowing how to identify the most appropriate tools for each area and for each specific situation of intervention aimed at individuals, groups and the community
- use the technical language of the profession appropriately
Students are required to have in-depth knowledge of the contents of the Methodology courses of social work, Theories of social work and Organisation of Social Services
An introduction will be made to the Social Work in Italy in particular within the institutional framework, ie as an action of a Public Entity.
Operating practices and methods of intervention in the following areas will then be analysed:
- interventions aimed at people in situations of fragility: with mental health problems, addictions; disability, reduced autonomy or non self-sufficiency; migrants; with penal measures;
- interventions aimed at families and children;
- interventions for the protection of children;
- interventions in relation to gender-based violence.

Oral exam
The exam will include the discussion of a written text prepared by the student during the course and open questions.

Regarding the grading scale for the (oral or written) exam:
A. Scores in the range of 18-22 will be assigned for:
- Sufficient knowledge of the textbooks and related topics
- Limited ability to use data and form independent judgments
- Sufficient communication skills related to social work

B. Scores in the range of 23-26 will be assigned for:
- Fair knowledge of the textbooks and related topics
- Fair ability to use data and form independent judgments
- Fair communication skills related to social work

C. Scores in the range of 27-30 will be assigned for:
- Good or excellent knowledge of the textbooks and related topics
- Good or excellent ability to use data and form independent judgments
- Fully appropriate communication skills related to social work.

D. The “laude” will be awarded to students with excellent knowledge and comprehension of the textbooks and related topics, capacity of apply theoretical knowledge to concrete case


The frontal lessons, carried out with the help of power point, will be accompanied by didactic moments characterized by the use of typical tools of participatory teaching: simulations, role playing, case presentations. In addition, some lessons may be attended by social workers who are experts in some areas of intervention.
The teacher will be available to answer students' questions also through agreed meetings both in presence and remotely.

This subject deals with topics related to the macro-area "Poverty and inequalities" and contributes to the achievement of one or more goals of U. N. Agenda for Sustainable Development
