The course is part of the core curriculum in the third year of the Korea track of the "Languages, Cultures, and Societies of Asia and Mediterranean Africa" program. Its educational objectives fall within the area of linguistic skills development. By the end of the course, students will have gained in-depth knowledge of grammar and writing through lectures and practice sessions with native speakers. They will be capable of conducting conversations and composing/reading more advanced texts in authentic communicative contexts. The level students are expected to achieve by the end of the course should be around B2, an intermediate or "threshold" level, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), approximately equivalent to level 3/4 of the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK). The course builds on the teachings of "Korean Language 1", "Korean Language 2," and "Korean Language 3.1".
B2- Intermediate Level or "Threshold"

1. Knowledge and Understanding: Consolidate knowledge of the pre-intermediate grammatical structures of the Korean language. Consolidate knowledge of the writing system and vocabulary of the Korean language at a pre-intermediate level with specialized language elements. Understand and comprehend the functioning of the grammatical structures of the Korean language at an intermediate level. Know and comprehend the variations in register and communication of the Korean language at an intermediate level. Understand and comprehend the concepts and terminology essential for scientifically describing the studied phenomena.

2. Ability to Apply Knowledge and Understanding: Demonstrate a general understanding of the grammatical structures and periods of the Korean language. Be able to read, understand, and effectively summarize texts in Korean at an intermediate level. Be able to interact in communicative situations as expected at the B2 level of the CEFR. Be able to understand and produce oral and written texts in accordance with the B2 level of the CEFR. Be able to translate intermediate-level written texts from Korean to Italian, following the guidelines provided during teaching. Perfect the ability to use electronic dictionaries and other translation tools.

3. Autonomy of Judgment: Be able to argue elementary concepts and produce examples to support or refute in Korean. Be able to independently make translation choices based on the guidelines provided during teaching.

4. Communicative Skills: Ability to understand and produce written and oral texts and to interact orally as expected at the B2 level of the CEFR. Be able, during lectures and exercises, to interact critically and respectfully with peers, the instructor, and CELs (language teaching assistants).

5. Learning Ability: Be able to take notes in a relevant and effective manner. Be able to consult texts and reference materials suggested in the course bibliography. Be able to develop the skills acquired to undertake further studies.

The course "Korean Language 3.2" is structured over a semester and culminates with a final evaluation consisting of two distinct components:

1. Multi-phase written test: The written test is divided into two main sections: grammar and conversation. Each section is scored out of a maximum of 30 points. The average of the scores from these two sections constitutes the final score of the written test. A score below 18 in any one of the sections results in a failing evaluation and disqualification from passing the test.
2. Oral examination: Access to the oral exam is contingent upon passing the written test. The oral exam involves a conversation assessed according to the CEL criteria.

The final grade for the course is determined by the weighted average of the scores obtained in the oral and written tests. Passing "Korean Language 3.1" is an essential prerequisite for access to and subsequent passing of "Korean Language 3.2". The 12 university credit units (CFUs) associated with the course are awarded only after passing the final examination. This assessment structure aims to rigorously consolidate and verify the linguistic competencies acquired during the semester.
The course will be conducted through face-to-face lectures by the professor, accompanied by reading and tutoring sessions. These sessions are designed to foster intense interaction among participants, who are actively involved in the learning process. Active participation in these meetings is required so that participants can develop an independent linguistic understanding using the exercises methodically presented in class by the professor. Additionally, online exercises will be available using specially prepared study materials uploaded to the MOODLE page for each CEL. These materials are intended to supplement and enhance the understanding and practice of linguistic skills acquired during the face-to-face lectures, thus promoting a holistic and coherent educational approach.

This course demands significant effort and strong motivation to navigate the challenging transition from an intermediate to an advanced level of proficiency in the Korean language. At this stage of learning, students are expected to deepen their linguistic skills, acquire more sophisticated syntactic structures, and handle more complex language content, all of which are essential for advanced and critical use of the language.
