JAPANESE LANGUAGE 2

In the course, students complete the transition from intermediate to advanced level of Japanese and engage with an original case study: translating humour through multimedia files. Students will tackle different types of texts and learn targeted translation techniques. Throughout the CEL exercises, the four language skills (reading, writing, conversation, and listening) will be developed.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to read, comprehend, and translate authentic Japanese materials. They will be able to take a stance towards issues that relate to their academic specialization and interact in formal settings.

Participants should have a high intermediate-advanced proficiency in Japanese. They need to prepare tasks assigned in class and demonstrate intellectual flexibility.

Introduction to Japanese humour and the principles of translation. Analysis of academic, literary, and audiovisual texts. Discussion about the problems of JP-IT translation by using case studies.

The final exam includes a written part for the teacher and a part for the CLA.
As for the part of the Italian teacher, the exam will focus on the manipulation of Japanese puns and the comprehension of a short academic text.
For those who pass the written exam, an oral part will also be submitted (CLA).
