The aim of the course is to offer an introduction to major problems at the intersection of philosophy and literature. Among the primary topics to be discussed will be the debate on ordinary and literary language. Part of the course will be devoted to the interrelation between ethics and imagination, investigating different answers to the question about the relationship between reality and fiction.
The student, on successful completion of this module, will be able to:

1. identify theorical and historical-critical dimensions
2. critically engage with philosophical arguments organizing them
3. differentiate positions within the contemporary philosophical landscapes

The course will focus on theories of imagination and ethics in the philosophical analysis and literature. We will investigate the ethical significance of literary work trough careful readings of texts and other materials: fictional narratives, poems, plays and movies.

Method of final evaluation: oral examination based on problems and readings considered during the course.
Method of instruction: the main teaching methods of the course are the lecture and the lecture-discussion. Every student will be encouraged to participate in the discussion of the materials (small group seminars and presentations).
