This course is one of the core subjects of the Master's Degree in Italian Philology and Literature and aims to provide students with the methodological and didactic tools for the teaching profession in the field of Italian language. During the class we will reflect upon didactic models and their applicability in schools; the development of teaching skills based on scientifically correct notions will be stimulated.
At the end of the course, students will be able to identify and select teaching methods, techniques and materials suitable for achieving the learning outcomes envisaged by the regulations in the various school orders and grades for the teaching of Italian. They will know how to orientate themselves in relation to the main linguistic tasks required of Italian teachers: teaching grammar; guiding students in understanding and analysing texts; stimulating the development of writing skills.
In addition to the knowledge of Italian, knowledge of the main concepts of Italian linguistics is required. As for Italian grammar, any gaps can be filled by using the following volume: M. Prandi/C. De Santis, Grammatica italiana essenziale e ragionata, Torino, Utet, 2020.
A part of the course will be dedicated to a reflection upon the school curricula which will take into account the National Indications. Subsequently, the main linguistic tasks required of teachers will be presented and discussed: teaching grammar, updated according to the canons of modern linguistics; teaching the analysis of written texts; teaching academic writing. All these aspects will be assessed in the light of a preliminary reflection on the different levels of language functioning, which are in many cases related to different competences: grammaticality, norm, uses, variation, textuality, textual typologies.

The final learning assessment consists of an oral interview on the topics covered in the course. The mastery of the contents and the linguistic and lexical accuracy will be assessed. The assessment criteria respond to different levels of ability: from the minimum level of uncertain knowledge of the contents to the highest level of in-depth knowledge of the contents, ability to critically reorganise them and excellent expository competence.
There will be frontal lessons with the support of multimedia tools (use of Word and Power Point with video projector), accompanied by exercises aimed at the realisation of disciplinary didactic paths that can be implemented in different school contexts; the active participation of the students will be stimulated.
