This course is elective and explores features, risks, and benefits of the digitalization of public administration, by keeping into account the heterogeneous application levels in the public sector. Governments are experimenting with innovative, technology-enabled service delivery models, which are starting to transform the way they work. The digital wave promises to change the information systems, the operational mechanisms and the same concept of public services, actively influencing the relationship between citizens and governments and fostering social innovation. The lectures refer to all the fields at each level.
The aim of the course is to give an overview of the most relevant issues of public management and explain the influence of digitalization on both change process of public services and social innovation.
The course provides alternative theoretical models, interpretative tools, and case studies on best practices.

Articles, papers and case studies will be made available progressively on the Moodle platform
The examination consists of two parts.
The first part (weighing 40% in the final score) will consist of a project work to submit in PowerPoint format, three days before the second part.
Each work unit will consist of a maximum of 2 students.
The second part will be based on 50-minutes test based on 3 open-ended questions and 4 multiple-choice questions .
It is a blended course. Part of the meetings will consist of lectures. The online part will be devoted to the presentation and discussion of case studies, weekly monitoring of project work and seminar activities with practitioners and/or academics.
