This course explores the relations between art, mind, and language by examining what artist, philosopher and scientists have to say about the expressive possibilities of their languages.
it analyzes styles of reasoning and methods presupposed in several discipline: history and theory of art, philosophy of mind, philosphy of language and epistemology.
Learning outcomes

The student, on successful completion of this module, will be able to:
1. critically engage with philosophical arguments, criticizing and organizing arguments
2. apply philosophical concepts to artistic issues
3. distinguish dimensions relevant to their own specialties


The course is designed for students in whom philosophical and artistic interests are interrelated.
Title: «Artistic cultures and philosophical patterns»

The course threats the topics of the interrelations of art, science and philosophy, focusing on issues concerning different disciplines through close readings of art and musical works, poems, philosophical texts. It investigates the significance of art work compared with several forms of knowledge in other disciplines.

Method of evaluation: oral examination based on problems and readings considered during the course

The main teaching methods of the course are the lecture, the lecture-discussion of texts. Every student will be encouraged to participate in the discussion of the materials (small group seminars and presentations).
