Contribution of the course to the overall degree programme goals
Teacher education (6 cfu - M-PED/03) – This course is one of the practical educational activities included in the Philosophy - Philosophy and Human sciences programme [FT2]. It enables students to acquire knowledge and understanding of the methodological foundations of teaching and to manage teaching courses in lower and upper secondary schools and in educational institutes.
Expected learning outcomes
1) Knowledge and understanding: Knowing and analyzing educational and teaching design models, teaching methods and techniques for active, autonomous and responsible learning.
2) Applied knowledge and understanding: Being able to apply the methodological and teaching knowledge acquired through study and personal experience in a variety of real educational situations; formal (school and university), non-formal (professional and social) and informal (personal and experiential), to address and solve teaching problems.
3) Autonomy of judgement: Gathering, selecting and interpreting useful information aimed at planning educational courses; discuss methodological choices; identify ethical and social implications connected to the educational practice.
4) Communication skills: Being able to communicate information, ideas, concepts; defining methodological problems and outline possible strategies by discussing with peers (students), teachers and trainers and educational policy-makers.
5) Learning ability: performing learning transfer into educational practices, operating and interacting in various teaching contexts and in known situations.
Pre-requirements
There are no prerequisites. Students of different programmes within the University who are interested in educational and training processes especially in secondary school teaching, can also attend the course.
Contents
Scientific foundations of teaching.
Models of teaching design and curriculum organization.
Expert teaching methods: expository, laboratory, inquiry, participatory, personalized.
Active learning techniques: simulation (role play), procedural and tutorial, responsible (action, outdoor, service), creative (brainstorming) and cooperative.

Assessment methods
- Online test (on text A) with closed-ended questions (learning outcome n. 1).
- Written test (on texts A and B) with open-ended questions (learning outcome n. 3).
- Case study: Analysis of an educational teaching practice on a topic of choice with a short critical report (learning outcomes n. 2-3-4-5). Groups or individual students who carry out the case study during the course will do an in-person or distance presentation of their work to the class.
Teaching methods
Lectures and interactive teaching (personalization of information transfer laboratory analysis evaluation) to allow students to discuss active analytical and decision-making techniques (case study, incident, autobiography), simulations (role play, dramatization, script), in situation (action learning, demonstrations and exercises), social (brainstorming, cooperative learning, peer tutoring).
