In order for this teaching to be followed in the best possible way, a good knowledge, at least passive, of the French language (listening comprehension and written comprehension) is required.
Following an itinerary through the city of Paris, the course will propose a reflection on the important transformations that affected the French capital and in particular the places of artistic and literary creation and the transmission of knowledge in the aftermath of the French Revolution. In addition to certain places linked to state institutions, such as museums and national libraries, examples will be presented of places that, outside the institutional circuits, were protagonists of important cultural evolutions and participated in the advent of artistic-literary 'modernity', such as the newspaper editorial office, the publishing house or the artist's studio.

Documents of various kinds (journalistic and literary texts, illustrations, works of art) will be analysed during the course and will form part of the examination programme.
