The course is among the Core Educational Activities of the Bachelor's degree course in History and among the Basic Activities of the Bachelor's degree course in Sciences of Society and Social Service.
The aim of the course is the knowledge of social history methodologies.
Knowledge and understanding:
- know the methodologies of social history
- know some case studies related to contemporary Italian history
- know some types of sources
Ability to apply knowledge and understanding:
- know how to use some methodologies of social history
- knowing how to orientate in the considered historical period
- knowing how to interpret and critically analyze some types of sources
Judgment skills:
- know how to apply a critical and informed approach to the reconstructions of the past and to the analysis of documents
Communication skills:
- know how to interact with the teacher and peers in a critical and respectful way
- know how to write a short text using appropriate terminology
At least elementary knowledge of the Italian language.
Knowledge of the general frameworks of modern and contemporary history acquired in the high school.
Methodologies and themes of social history. Some case studies related to the history of Italy: rural populations, urban suburbs, colonial populations, the southern question, mental hospitals before their closure, nomad camps, internal and international migrations.

The exam will verify the preparation on what is explained in class and on the bibliography of the course through a written test with short-answer questions on bibliography and lessons.
