The Harley MS 978 is the book that preserves the collection of the Lais di Marie of France in its most complete form. Its transcript in littera textualis can be an excellent tool for introducing non-expert students to the paleography of vernacular texts: they will read some pages of the book, with the critical help of the teacher.
Acquisition of the ability to read a medieval script. Improvement of processes of focusing, and treatment of medieval documents.
Being able to to translate short texts from the originals (in Latin, ancient French).
An Introduction to Medieval paleography;
Reading texts from manuscripts.
Minimum bibliography and texts to be analyzed will be provided on Moodle during the exercises.
The skills acquired will be verified during the exam of Romance Philology II (the exam is oral).
