The discipline belongs to the core educational activities of the Master’s Degree Programme in History from the Middle Ages to Present. The course intends to prepare students to specialize in European (and extra-European) history through the first-hand analysis of sources and secondary literature.
The course will allow the students:
1) to acquire the knowledge and the understanding of the major categories, problems, historiographical trends related to the Reformation in Europe;
2) to acquire a deeper knowledge on the early developments of German Reformation, by reading and discussing historical essays.
Basic knowledge of the European History in the Early Modern Age.
The course aims to present how the Reformation took origin and developed during the early sixteenth century. On the one hand, the Reformation will be discussed in relation to the reform movements of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. On the other hand, the historical analysis will allow to achieve a better understanding of the political and social history of early modern Europe.

A reference list of books will be made available on moodle.
The students who attend classes are required:

a) to hold an oral presentation about a case-study;

b) to write a paper (essay) based on the critical analysis of sources and secondary literature.

Students who can't attend the course have to attend an oral exam based on the discussion of texts agreed with the teacher.
