Contribution of the course to the overall degree programme goals
Its educational objectives fall within the area of learning language skills.
The course corresponds to 12 CFU = 300 hours of total commitment (see didactic regulation art. 16 on the CFU; https://www.unive.it/pag/8251/ ):
30h teacher + 120 h exercises + 150h Individual Study
The course, as a whole, aims to develop HOTS (higher-order-thinking-skills) through the foreign language and to consolidate, also through exercises, in-depth knowledge of grammar and writing.
The aim of the course is that the participants
1. acquire knowledge and understanding of the Japanese language, also linked to contemporary themes
2. apply their language skills to understand and support arguments and solve problems
3. have the ability to collect and interpret data in Japanese
4. know how to communicate information, ideas, problems and solutions to specialist and non-specialist interlocutors
The course consists of:
1) Course professor, Prof.IMAMURA (30 hours in class):
Creative-collaborative activity, “コミュニケーション/社会/平和/人権/貧困/持続可能性/ジャーナリズム/XYZと私”
Communication/Society/Peace/Human Right/Poverty/Sustainability/Giornalism/XYZ and me.
2) Mother-tongue exercises (120 hours in class):

The exercises of Dr. NAKAYAMA concentrate first of all upon the production of written texts in Japanese, analyzing and developing specific competence in academic writing. In addition, Dr.NAKAYAMA offers the possibility to have practices in translating Italian text to Japanese.
The exercises of Dr. SUZUKI concentrate first of all upon the understanding of various texts「読解」 and upon the learning of correct usage of diverse linguistic register (keigo, taigu hyogen, etc.). The students will have practices in various social situations ("business Japanese").
The final grade consists of the average of the two parts: course holder and exercises.
The entire learning process will be pervasive in the various linguistic activities.
The detailed lesson calendar for the course will be inserted in moodle.unive.it, as well as for the exercises.
The level that students should reach at the end of the course should be around a C1 level of the CEFR / CEFR (around the N1 level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test).
The teaching is in keeping with the teachings of "Japanese language 1.1", "Japanese language 1.2" of the previous year.
Expected learning outcomes
1. Know and understand grammatical structures, writing, vocabulary and registers of the advanced level of the Japanese language
2. Apply linguistic knowledge to argue and understand one's own and others' ideas, identify and solve problems:
a. Knowing how to effectively produce, read, understand and summarize advanced level texts and conversations in Japanese.
b. Knowing how to interact in communicative situations provided for by C1 + level of CEFR / CEFR (see PDF Lesson 1)
c. Knowing how to understand and produce oral and written texts in agreement with level C1 + of the CEFR / CEFR. (see PDF Lesson 1)
d. Improve the ability to use the electronic dictionary and other online tools for the production / translation of texts
3. achieving a good judgment autonomy:
a. to argue elementary concepts and produce examples to support or refute in the Japanese language.
b. to submit to critical examination current myths and prejudices about the Japanese language (eg presumed untranslatability, opacity, etc.).
4. develop written and oral communication skills as required by level C1 + of the CEFR / CEFR.
Objective at the end of the learning process:
ATTENDANTS (over 80% of the presence in the classroom and respect for ALL the tasks and deadlines set): The exam will be constituted of a final presentation about the contents and the individual and group activities during the course.
The main activity of the course is the group discussions on a selected topic among proposed ones, accompanied by reflections in class and on Moodle, especially upon:
1. Motivational text: identification of the topic/question.
2. Dialogue activities outside of the class: selected quotations and considerations to be reported to the own group
3. Conclusions: effects of the dialogue on the perspectives inherent in the issues proposed in its theme
4. Discussions on criteria for the self- and mutual evaluation
5. Discussions on the concrete experience carried out.
At the beginning of every lesson, about 25 minutes will be dedicated to the corner “shades of Japanese expressions.
NON-ATTENDING: Individual report on the topic selected (6000 characters) and Moodle’ test in presence on the readings proposed by the professor. A dedicated part to excercises will be part of the examination too.

NB: The materials for those attending will be delivered by the lecturer on the moodle site from time to time, with deadlines for their delivery.
NB2: NON-ATTENDING students are required to read the reference texts, and to choose the introduction and the first chapter of one of the texts proposed in points 2), 3) and 10) , on which a question of Moodle examination will focus.

Composition of a writing of 400-500 characters (‘Kijutsu mondai’)

2) Verification of <active learning> "コミュニケーション/社会/平和/人権/貧困/持続可能性/ジャーナリズム/XYZと私".
ATTENDING: attendance the course in all its aspects, oral presentation in class and written report during the process of interaction with the group and the class. Self, peers and teachers evaluation: 40% among peers, 60% of the teacher.
NOT ATTENDING:
The verification part of the activities carried out during the exercises is also the same for attending students.
The verification part of the course holder, for non-attending students will focus on:
1)- Written exam: Submission of the Final Report on Moodle.
2)- Oral exam:
2A) Question on the contents of the proposed articles/monographs.
2B) - Oral presentation in Japanese (ppt of 8 minutes maximum, on the same day of writing) on the report writing process, final report, delivered on moodle on the day of the written exam.
The final grade is the average of the two parts: course of prof. Imamura and exercises of native teachers.
Teaching methods
The lessons will be characterized by intense interaction. Active participation in the lessons is required so that the participants can develop an autonomous linguistic awareness through the exercises presented in class by the teacher. Attendance is not mandatory but strongly recommended.
