The course is one of the activities of the Global Asian Studies Minor, especially related with Legal Institutions, and is a laboratory in which students carry out research work on specific areas of East Asian law through readings and assignments. The main objectives of the course are to provide useful tools to research and to develop skills and a methodology in order to allow the students to be able to carry out critical analysis of legal issues on their own.
1. Knowledge and understanding:
1.1. Knowledge of legal terminology and its use in academic fields.
1.2. to know and understand some legislative issues in specific areas of East Asian law (China, Japan and Korea).
2. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding:
2.1. ability to analyze contents and to organize bibliographic sources.
2.2. ability to compare different legal systems and social phenomena.
3. Ability to critically analyse and to learn:
3.1.ability to critically consult the texts provided on moodle and to search for references.
3.2. ability to argue their thesis supporting with evidences and theories.
4. Communication skills:
4.1.ability to communicate your research outcomes.
4.2. ability to relate with other students in order to achieve a common goal.
Knowledge of the basic principles of law, with particular reference to East Asia legal systems. The student who attends this course should already know the context in which the legislative processes of the countries moves thanks to the Legal Institutions course.
The workshop is divided into three parts: in the first two specific aspects of two subjects of Chinese, Japanese and Korean law (e.g. labour law, family law) will be analysed and in the third part the topic will be chosen by the students who will work together as a group.
Academic papers provided by the professor on the moodle platform.
Written and oral test. The first one is the drafting of a short paper and the second a presentation in class.
The laboratory is organized:
a) the professor will upload weekly two or three papers on a specific topic (each week, one Country).
a) for the first two parts students will have to upload an assignment on the moodle platform weekly.
b) at the end of a topic (about every three weeks), students will discuss with the professor about the topic through a comparison of the three Cuntries.
c) in the third part the students will have to carry out a group work by choosing a topic. Every week they will upload on the moodle platform a reference list and an handhout.
d) students' short paper and a presentation.

This subject deals with topics related to the macro-area "Poverty and inequalities" and contributes to the achievement of one or more goals of U. N. Agenda for Sustainable Development
