Contribution of the course to the overall degree programme goals
The teaching consists of a "module" in the second semester and language exercises throughout the year, closely integrated and coordinated by the teacher.
The general objective of the course is to consolidate the metalinguistic competence of the French language at the textual level, to succeed in rendering a French text in Italian, and to achieve a linguistic competence equal to level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The achievement of the expected learning outcomes is verified in a final exam divided in several exercises.
Expected learning outcomes
2. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding. The metalinguistic competence developed in the module allows to improve the conscious learning of the language and its use, in particular for the writing, in order to be able to analyze complex written texts and to produce arguments at B2 level. Ability to translate various types of text correctly.
3. Autonomy of judgement. The student must be able to analyze, interpret statements and authentic speeches placed in different types of communicative contexts in an autonomous and personal way and be able to make judgments on read texts. This preparation is preparatory to the drafting of the third year's BA thesis. For translation, students must be able to justify their translation choices.
4. Communication skills. The 4 skills are developed to reach thee B2 level of the Common European Framework for Languages, as well as the ability to mediate through the translation from Italian to French of small authentic passages and from French to Italian of authentic texts of a different nature.
5. Learning skills. The students must have the skills to manage their own learning: being able to take notes, being able to prolong learning autonomously (listening, complementary readings with a reading card), being able to use the bilingual and monolingual dictionary and reliable websites that can help in the translation process. The portfolio handed over to the teachers testifies to this work.

A monolingual and a bilingual dictionary
Assessment methods
a. Discourse analysis and translation test (from French to Italian) on the contents of the module for the verification of competences 1, 2 and 4: 2 hours
b. Grammar test and translation of a passage from Italian to French for the verification of competence 1 and 4 (1 hour)
c. Written production of argumentative type of 250 words for the verification of competence 2 and 4 (type DELF B2, 1 hour)
d. Oral comprehension of an authentic document, answering a questionnaire (type DELF B2, 30 minutes) (to check skill 4)
The oral comprehension and oral production skills will be measured in the third year for level C1, but should be exercised throughout the second year for level B2.
In the portfolio (evaluation of competence 5), the following should appear
Compulsory:
- 5 correct written productions of which the reading card and 5 incorrect (themes taken from Edito);
- 10 listening sessions (virtual classroom of Moodle, or 5 films with relative papers. A conference with its summary paper is equivalent to a film;
- Reading a novel. The reading card must be delivered among the 5 written productions;
Students who do not attend will present 10 productions (including the reading paper) and 10 listening sessions.
The DELF B2 (written production) test taken no more than two years before can be recognized as equivalent if it was not done for LF1.
The partial exams must all be passed by the fourth call of this academic year. If this is not the case, the entire exam must be taken in the following academic year.
If the average of the exams is at least 18/30 and no vote is below 15/30, the exam is considered passed.
