Boccaccio and the French narrative Tradition.
Romance Philology is part of the characterizing teaching activities. The course (second part of Filologia romanza 12 CFU) proposes to analyze the relationships between Romance literature and Italian in the Middle Ages, through a specific case: Boccaccio's reuse of short texts written in ancient French and Provencal.
Knowledge:
- basic information on Romance narrative tradition;

Skills:
- acquisition and refinement of coimparative method;
- reinforcement of skills in direct reading (translating) the Old French.
Language skills (ancient French) acquired in the course of "Romance Philology I".
Commented reading of novels from the "Decameron".
Original texts and essays, in digital format, will be provided by the Professor at the beginning of the course on the Moodle web platform.
The exam consists of two parts;
- verification of the ability to analyze a plot (see "Exercises of Romance Philology II");
- texts and topics covered during the lessons.
The course will consist of commented readings of novels of the "Decameron", conducted according to the traditional forms of textual analysis.
