Contribution of the course to the overall degree programme goals
The student will have the opportunity to face some industrial/technological problems and will be encouraged i) to use a logical and deductive reasoning in solving these problems; ii) to develop the ability to argue scientific reasoning; iii) to develop the ability to deepen a topic and expose it by a ppt presentation in an appropriate technical-scientific language.
Expected learning outcomes
a) processes of transformation of oil and natural gas into fuels and chemicals;
b) the main processes for production of sulfuric acid, methanol, and derivative products;
c) synthetic methodologies and techniques for the characterization of nanostructured heterogeneous catalysts.
2. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding
a) to Know how to use the knowledge to solve technological problems in a logical and deductive way;
b) to Know how to carry out a literature research and to know how to present a specific topic by a ppt presentation.
3. Ability to judge
a) to know how to evaluate comparatively the effectiveness of different Technologies;
b) to develop a preliminary critical capacity on the effectiveness of some processes and on the choices of catalysts.
4. Communication skills
a) to know how to use an appropriate vocabulary and a suitable technical-scientific symbolism;
b) to interact positively with the teacher and with the classmates, formulating coherent questions and arguing alternative hypotheses.
5. Learning skills
a) to Know how to be autonomous in carrying out literature screenings
b) to be able to take notes, selecting the important aspects of scientific reasoning and collecting information according to their importance and priority.
