The course is part of the related and supplementary courses of the master's degree course in “History of the arts and conservation of artistic heritage”. Awareness of historical practice and theories on restoration contribute to the improvement of the transversal skills of the learners in the historical-artistic fields.
-Awareness of the main theoretical issues concerning the discipline;
-Improvement of a critical approach to primary and secondary sources;
-Improvement of a technical vocabulary;
-Ability to do research and to communicate results.
A basic knowledge in History of Western Art will be desiderable.
The course intends to offer an overview with a broad chronological spectrum based on two main studies by Cesare Brandi and Alessandro Conti.
"Theory of restoration" by Brandi is a critical focus restoration as science.
The"History of the restoration and conservation of works of art" by Conti is a historical focus on fashion and practice of r. in connection with History in collecting and Museology.
The course, planned as a sequence of seminars classes will aim on the one hand to broaden the theoretical knowledge of the learners, on the other hand to solicit the exercise of observation aimed at developing a competent critical judgment, relating to the state of conservation of a work of art.
