The course Translation from English into Italian is part of the activities "caratterizzanti", which characterize the Degree in Language and Cultural Mediation and will enable students to translated non specialized texts from English into Italian. The course consists is a semestral module in which competences will be acquired both at methodological and practical level, by means of a number of practical translation activities. Text types in the two languages will be introduced, and students will be enabled to use the most appropriate translation approach in relation to specific text types.
At the end of the course students will be enabled to distinguish among the main text types in English and Italian. They will also be able to choose amongst a variety of translation approaches according to the specificity of the translation brief. Furthermore, they will learn specific translation terminology and will be able to illustrate the reasons for their specific choices and results.
They will also be able to use the material provided by their teacher in an autonomous way and will be able to self-assess the skills and competences acquired during the course.
Pre-requisites of this course are a level B2 of the QCER and an excellent competence of their native language, usually Italian. A good level of autonomy in the study method and a substantial cultural background will favour a rapid acquisition of the content of the course.

At the end of the course the exam will consist in a written translation exercise. This test will normally last 75-120 minutes and will focus on one of the text types illustrated in class. The 6 CFU for this exam will be processed only if the written exam is passed.
