The teaching is part of the teaching courses characterizing the degree course of "Languages, Civilizations and Language Sciences" and aims to provide students with methodological tools in the Latin American literary and cultural context. The teaching is included in the three curricula present in the course of study, that are the literary philological, the international political and language sciences.
The course aims:
1) to provide a general understanding of the historical context and the literary production from the "discovery" of America today, especially with regard to the history of ideas, to be defined through the analysis of poetic texts of authors and female authors most representative. In particular, it aims to cover the story of the birth of the idea of ​​America to the development of "de-colonial option".
2) to promote the understanding of cultural phenomena and the capacity of their critical contextualization within the framework of the society that produced them.
3) to provide some critical and methodological base, for the acquisition, by students, of understanding and analysis of the text that promote the autonomy of judgment, as well as to elaborate personal critical ideas.
4) to increase the learning skills needed to undertake subsequent studies with a high degree of autonomy.
The prerequisites to access the course are a good knowledge of the formal register, written and oral, of the Italian language.
The course "Latin America: the history of an invention" will trace the broad outlines of the historical context underlying the cultural evolution of Latin American productions from the sixteenth to twenty-first century, in its contradictory relationships of dependence and emancipation from the European context. The study of the salient features of the great aesthetic-literary currents and poetic forms, narratives and theatrical in their evolution will be addressed through the presentation of the authors and the analysis of the works of particular importance. The reading in spanish language and the analysis of parts taken from the planned works and anthological passages are scheduled.

The exam consists of an interview mainly in Italian and will verify the contents of the form, the knowledge of the works studied with the support of the critical texts, as well as the historical and literary knowledge of centuries addressed (issues, evolutionary lines, main authors). There will be a translation exam of a text studied and translated during the lessons.
The teaching methods used will be frontal lessons mainly in Italian, divided into two parts:
1) presentation of the author under study;
2) reading in Spanish language and analysis of the texts proposed in the bibliography.
