DATA SCIENCE

The goal of this module is to introduce students to textual analysis, from simple word counting to more complex analytic method aiming to identify topics mentioned in a document. It will also introduce text information retrieval, which permits users to find and retrieve (unstructured text) documents that satisfies an information need express by a simple keyword query. The course will also introduce basic pattern recognition concepts and tools, from various form of classification or clustering processes to the fundamentals of the definition of descriptive features and dimensionality reduction.

On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
• identify the basic and different mining analyses can be applied to text collections;
• understanding the capabilities of modern search engine;
• understand the pros and cons of various representation of the data;
• use simple analysis tools.
