DIGITAL EPIGRAPHY

This course aims to develop some basic skills in the field of digital epigraphy. Through a number of case studies referring to the ancient Roman and medieval world, we will present the most advanced tools that enable us to decode and contextualise inscribed documents written in Latin over two millennia (from the 8th century BC to the 15th century AD). We intend to offer students the possibility to consult and implement an extremely rich corpus of documents, which is often neglected even by specialists, while it allows a better understanding of the ancient and medieval world under different perspectives: institutional, political, economic, and social.
