ADVANCED MICROECONOMICS

This is a second-year doctoral course covering topics in economic theory.

To appreciate recent advances in economic theory, gaining both some familiarity with the basic models and a critical perspective on their reach.

You are expected to have successfully completed the first-year requirements for the doctoral program in Economics, including the comprehensive exam in Microeconomics.

We expect to cover ten topics (one per class):

1) ambiguity in decisions;
2) incentives in behavioural economics;
3) networks and markets;
4) economics of relationships;
5) economics of institutions;
6) matching markets;
7) organizational economics;
8) economics of persuasion;
9) dynamic contracts;
10) information design.

If approved by at least 67% of the class, different topics may be chosen.

The grade is obtaned as the addition of:

- written work submitted before class 15%
- written work submitted after class 25%
- class presentation 20% (teacher evaluation) + 10% (peer evaluation)
- research proposal 25%
- class participation 5%

A passing grade is equal or superior to 60% of total available points.
