The seminar, considered as a core educational activity, intends to approach the early-printed book in both its materiality and catalographic aspects through a laboratory activity in which students will learn how to catalogue early-printed books.
The student will acquire an advanced level of knowledge of the history of early-printed books, both from a material and catalographic point of view. This knowledge will enable the student to achieve the following results: effective ability to fully study documentary and early-printed book sources, investigating them on several levels: in their material aspects, in their production process, in the contents, as well as the acquisition of the ability to procced to the early-printed book catalographic description, both off and online.
No particular prerequisites are required.
The seminar consists of a first part that will present in a multimedia way the history of the early-printed book, its material, catalog and bibliographical aspects, the history of the edition and of the copy, the international and Italian cataloguing standards and the existing online databases. The following lessons will be dedicated to the cataloguing of early-printed books (from incunabula to eighteenth-century books) following the ISBD / A standards. The last lesson will be entirely dedicated to an online cataloguing in OPAC SBN.
