Contribution of the course to the overall degree programme goals
Expected learning outcomes
1.1. understanding of the principal microeconomics mechanisms in perfectly competitive markets.
1.2. understanding of the main characteristics of and solutions to market failures:monopoly and information asymmetries;
1.3. understanding of the economic effects of taxes: tax incidence and the dead weight loss;
2. Applied knowledge and comprehension skills:
2.1. being able to apply the tools offered by microeconomics theory to the economics of art;
2.3. being able to identify peculiarities of the monopoly in the art sector and the cost structure of the firms working in it;
2.4. knowing how to solve basic problems in economics, including the solutions to moral hazard and adverse selection.
3. Use of independent judgment:
3.1. to interpret the role of Economics in the Art sector;
3.2. to evaluate the effects of taxes on agents' economic choices;
3.3. to critically asses the main limits of neoclassical economics in the analysis of real-world scenarios.

The professor will provide the students with addtional hints from behavioral and experimental economics, when relevant for the study of the economics of art.
Referral texts
For those students with a possible limited knowledge in Economics and Math (i.e. with a Bachelor in Arts and Culture), the following text is suggested to better understand the topics developed throughout the course: Chirichiello Giuseppe "Microeconomia di base: principi, metodi e applicazioni", Giappichelli Editore, chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 11.
However, slides and additional material (i.e. papers) provided by the professor will be made available to students as fundamental tools of the course.

- exercises requiring calculations
The exam tests preparation based on BOTH the textbook AND the additional teaching material. A mock exam will be made available at the end of the course.
The exam does not vary by student lecture attendance status.
Starting from the Academic Year 2019/2020, both parts of the exam ECONOMIA DELL'ARTE E DELLA CULTURA AVANZATO E FISCALITA' DEI MERCATI CULTURALI have to be passed within the SAME academic year: partial grades cannot be tranferred from one academic year to the other.
