Contribution of the course to the overall degree programme goals
1.1 developing the students' written and speaking abilities at C2 level in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages;
1.2 provide students with the proper methodological tools to develop the ability to translate literary texts from German into Italian, reflecting on translation stategies.
Expected learning outcomes
1. Konwledge and understanding:
1.1 active and passive knowledge of German language in its morphological, sintactic and semantic features (C2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
1.2 Understanding of complex literary, scientific and essaystic texts in German.
1.3 Knowledge of literary translation strategies.
2. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding
2.1. summarize (written and oral) the contents of essaystic and scientific texts on German culture, literature and language.
2.2. Ability to discuss (written and oral) evident and implicit thesis of a scientific or essaystic text.
2.3 Ability to translate a literary text from German into Italian
3. Ability to judge
3.1 Ability to judge, critique, compare, justify the ideas presented in an essay or scientific paper on German culture, literature and language.
3.2 Ability to judge the quality of a literary translation.

The course helps students
1. to learn how to translate different kinds of literary texts.
2. to read and work on scientific writings in order to be able to write a dissertation.
General aim: improve written and oral language skills to reach the C2 Level of the CEFRL.
Pre-requirements
Level required C1 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Contents
1. writen and oral skills, C2 level n the CEFRL.
2. How to write a summary based on a scientific or essayistic writings on German literature, culture and language.
3. Rhetorical and stylistic devices for writing summaries on scientific or essaystic texts on German literature, culture and language.
4. Rhetorical and stylistic devices to develope academic speaking and discussion skills.
5. Analysis of literary, essayistic and journalistic texts.
6. Translation.
Contents of the lecturer's module:
1. Introduction to translation in German culture.
2. Approaches and strategies in traslating literature.
3 Workshop on literary translation.

Assessment methods
- a written reading comprehension and summary af an essay / paper concerning German culture, literature or language. (C2 level). Duration of the exam: 4 hours.
- a written translation of 2 short literary texts. Duration of the exam: 3 hours + 3 hours on two different days.
