LATE MEDIEVAL ARCHAEOLGY

Advanced training in the use of archaeological sources for the study of the modern era.
The role that objects can play in the construction of a historical interpretation objects as a product, as a clue of economic relations, and finally as a manifestation of social dynamics in relation to their context of use.

Panorama of the archaeological research that addresses modern centuries in a global context. The theoretical approach to problems will also be highlighted. Case studies on the biography of the objects or that emphasize the point of view of the users of the artifacts, of those who have used those objects, attributing a meaning to them.
A part of the course will be dedicated to the archeology of production (ceramic, glass). Some lessons will take place at the Medieval Archeology Laboratory.
In the final part of the course it will also be possible to carry out guided visits to local exhibitions, based on the availability and interests of the students.

Choice between:
- oral presentation of short individual research (on a topic of the course or on selected bibliography);
- final oral examination on the topics covered during the course.

Active participation during the course is recommended.
Frontal and seminar lessons (oral presentation in turn, participation in class discussion).
Seminar lessons at the Medieval Archeology Laboratory.
Trip to some exhibitions, to be agreed at the beginning of the course based on the interests of the students.

Italian

During the summer / autumn period it will be possible to participate in field research.
