The course belongs to the basic teaching activities of the Bachelor's Degree Programmes in Philosophy, placing itself within the teachings of the historical-philosophical area. The educational objective of the course is to provide knowledge related to the history of philosophy from the beginnigs to the Hegelian system. Particular attention will be paid to the history of metaphysics as a privileged thread for the investigation of the history of philosophy. At the end of the course are expected students' understanding and knowledge about the main authors and problems of the history of metaphysics, as well as the ability to apply such knowledge in order to compare different philosophical theories, catching similarities and differences, and in order to be able to argue in critical way about the expounded historical-philosophical problems.
At the end of the course the students
1) should demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the most important themes of the history of metaphysics;
2) should have the ability to analyze in argumentative way the materials of the book of examination;
3) could communicate and discuss the ideas and the most relevant problems of the history of metaphysics.
Knowledge of History of philosophy (from Parmenides to Fichte).
1) General knowledge: German Idealism (from Schelling to Hegel).

2) Hegel's Phenomenology of Spirit: Consciusness and Self-Consciousness (Introduction, Chapters I, II, III, IV).

The evaluation will be based on a oral exam. The students should demonstrate:
1) knowledge of German Idealism (from Schelling to Hegel) and in particular of the related texts contained in the anthology "Storia della metafisica";
2) general knowledge of the themes of the eight chapters of the Phenomenology of Spirit;
3) the ability to communicate and expound in their specificity the different parts of the chapters I-II-III-IV of the Phenomenology of Spirit.
Lecture with critical analysis of texts.
A SEMINAR dedicated to the critical analysis of the texts is held ALL FRIDAY MORNING (12.15-13.45)
