The course aims to increase the knowledge of the history of art criticism and specialistic literature on art. In particular, focusing on a case study, it aims to provide the necessary methodological tools for the critical interpretation and the historical, stylistic and iconographic analysis of an artist’s work.
The course of History of artistic literature II (6 cfu), characterized by a monographic approach, is the second module of History of artistic literature (12 cfu).
The exam is scheduled among the related or supplementary learning activities of the degree course in Conservation and Management of Cultural Assets and Activities.
- knowledge and understanding: knowledge and understanding of the sources, literary and documentary, for the study of an artistic theory, an artistic genre or an artist; knowledge of the specific lexicon of history and art criticism.
- ability to apply knowledge and understanding: knowledge of how to use the specific vocabulary of the discipline to analyse a literary or documentary source, placing it within its temporal and cultural context.
- judgment ability: capability to express an organic critical view of the issues addressed.
- communication skills: knowing how to use an appropriate and specific terminology; to be able to apply a good Italian syntax and grammar.
- learning skills: acquisition of the methodological skills necessary to develop a personal judgment through the analysis of artistic literature and sources in general.
It is necessary to have passed the exam of History of artistic literature I. Compared to the general part, this module is intended as a complementary practical application.
The course will examine the work and the figure of Giambattista Tiepolo (1696-1770), painter of European fame, on the basis of contemporary literary and documentary sources.

Further bibliography will be provided during the course.
Assessment will be in the form of an oral exam on the topics covered during the course. The student will have to demonstrate the acquisition of a logical method of argumentation and critical analysis skills.
Frontal lectures with the help of PowerPoint, readings, dialogic interaction with students, visits (if possible).
The course uses the university e-learning platform (moodle.unive.it), where teaching materials will be made available.
