PRESERVATION OF ARCHIVAL AND LIBRARY MATERIAL

The preservation of archival and library material relates above all to the disciplines that include the study of the materiality of the archival and bibliographic heritage. On the other hand, there is a very close relationship with the teaching of "Conervation of the book and the document", which should be followed only after having attended the classes (and possibly passed the examination) of Preervation of archival and library material.

At the end of the course and after passing the examination, the student knows the history, the main theories and the rules underlying preservation in archives and libraries. She/he also learns about the meaning of preservation and conservation studies and the practice of prevention and maintenance.
The aim of the course is to enable archivists and librarians to carry out the actions they are responsible for in relation to the management of preservation and conservation in the institutions in which they operate or will be called upon to operate.

As most of the students attending the course of Preservation of Archival and Library Material do not have previous knowledge of the subject, no prerequisite is required.

Learning will be verified through an oral examination; where possible, it will take place in the library or in the archive through the examination of archival materials or books.
