The main objective of the course is to familiarize the student with some important themes, paradigms and authors in the International Relations field in a theoretical-practical perspective, starting from the analysis of specific cases and situations. In this sense, in the first part the course attempts to give an overview of the main elements that characterize the history, theory and dynamics present in the relations among States and among International Organizations, taking into account especially the main schools of thought. Second, we will analyze specifically the history of human rights, , with a focus on the challenges in fields such as natural rights, rights of men, rights of woman.
Based on the abilities and skills described above, the student is expected to be
- able to consolidate the acquisition of the theoretical concepts of R.I.
- able to critically interpret the use of theoretical concepts in the practice of R.I.
This course requires a basic knowledge of modern and contemporary history (in particular: formation of the modern state; peace of Westphalia; Congress of Vienna; World Wars history; colonisation and decolonisation; Cold War history)
