The aim of the course is to provide the student with tools to develop a strategic planning process and, before of that, to formulate an incremental (strategic positioning) as well as radical (strategic innovation) business strategy. The conceptual foundations and tools gained during the course will be systematically used to interactively analyze real case studies of start-ups based on blockchain and artificial intelligence technologies.

At the end of the course the student will know how to apply the theorical tools to understand and analyze strategic issues and to fully appreciate the complexities related to strategic management in terms of strategy formulation. The course will be characterized by an interdisciplinary approach and lessons of experts from various disciplines: economy, sociology, culture and design. Through the course students will learn how to rigorously analyze a firm's competitive environment, its internal resources and its business-level strategies. Students will learn tools and competences to research and analyse future trends in order to understand how they can impact the strategy. The conceptual foundations and tools gained during the course from various disciplines will be systematically used to analyse a case history based on business model innovation. The course is designed so that participation and discussion enable the learning process.
A bachelor-level course in strategy - or an equivalent knowledge of main strategy topics - is strongly advised. In particular, students would benefit from reading a basic strategy handbook such as:

The course focuses on the frameworks that are useful in analyzing the strategic problems and issues that firms face in their competitive contexts, on the processes of strategy formulation and on the subsequent process of strategic planning. Moreover, the course is characterized by in-depth analyses, workshops and frontal lessons of sociological, cultural and literature disciplines to provide students with an interdisciplinary approach to make better or transform the strategies. The course will enhance of a individual project work sustained by experts.

ORAL EXAMINATION (up to 15 points): 15 minutes PPT presentation about vision, mission, business strategy and business model innovation of 5 start-ups based on blockchain and artificial intelligence technologies. Start-ups to be selected from a given list provided by the teacher. Information about the startups available on https://icobench.com/ and via their ICO (Initial Coin Offer) white paper.

WRITTEN EXAMINATION (up to 15 points): three open questions on the course contents.
