The Course (International HRM and Organization) provides an introduction to the critical issues facing organizations in simultaneously managing their human resources at home and abroad. It focuses on the connection between corporate strategies and the effective management of human resources, which at times may require differing policies across countries. It offers a deep review of the main methods and systems applied in the area of people management. Students learn how the relationship between employers and employees affects the productivity, influences the personal motivation and contributes to the collective performances.The main topics concern with cross cultural human resources management and the global organizational structures. A main attention is paid to the global strategies to developing economies and european markets.
The course is based on the notion that competitive firms and economies require appropriate structures, policies, and strategies for managing their employees at every level of the enterprise. This is particularly true of multinational enterprises (MNEs) and global corporations involved in a global environment. Some more insights will be offered on Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) analysing their specificities and the competitive advantages based on people management in different cultural environments.
Students will learn:
- The diversity of HRM in an international context and the key HR/ER challenges facing organizations working internationally;
- Cross-cultural management: the impact of national culture on how individuals react to HR/ER interventions in different countries; - Comparative HRM: the impact of national institutions and systems on designing HR/ER policies and practices in different countries;
- Strategic IHRM: the linkage between corporate internationalization strategies and IHRM strategies, and how multinational organizations manage the global-local dilemma;
- The impact of internationalization on the role of HR departments in MNE and SME.
No previous course attendance is required.
