Teaching is part of the basic basic teachings of the historical-anthropological path. Basic introduction to the key-topics in History of Anthropology.
Knowledge of the main paradigms of cultural anthropology, of their historical formation, of their development and of their interconnections.
In order to be able to take this exam, students must have passed the first module "Cultural anthropology, introduction" exam.
The Tylorian concept of culture. The evolutionism. Tylor. Frazer. Franz Boas's contribution: critique of evolutionism and the comparative method. Functionalisms and objectivisms. Bronislaw Malinowski. The ethnographic method. Structuralisms and generalization. Claude Lévi-Strauss. The interpretative turning point and the work of Clifford Geertz. Seminars, study groups, conferences and other moments of study will be indicated in class.
Students must study the following books:

1) U.Fabietti, “Storia dell’antropologia”, Zanichelli, 2011.

- Attending students must study only capp.: 1, 2 (only par 2.1), 4, 6, 8, 9, 14, 17, 20.
- Non-attending students must study whole book.

2) M. Augé, “Un etnologo nel metrò”, Milano, Eléuthera, 2010.

Attendance is recommended. Non-attending students are required to prepare the entire volume U. Fabietti, "Storia dell'antropologia", Zanichelli, edizione 2011.

Important: Students must always bring the program of the current academic year. Under no circumstances can they bring old past academic programs.
Remote oral exam with Google Meet. Registration for the Moodle course is mandatory.
Frontal lessons with use of slides.

To apply for a Bachelor's thesis in Cultural Anthropology, the following requirements are essential:

1) have successfully passed, by attending, 2 modules of Cultural Anthropology;
2) the good knowledge of English;
3) the discussion of a short preliminary research project.

The thesis topic should be consistent with the research fields of the teacher:
Anthropology of space and landscape; Space-time categories; Anthropology of risk; Saami history and ethnography (Lapland, Northern Scandinavia); History of Anthropology.

Erasmus students are required to speak correctly in Italian. The exam for Erasmus students must be in Italian.
