The course focuses on the language of Business, Economics, Trade and Finance. Language acquisition will be enhanced through the use of authentic materials in English, which will be used to develop students' reading, listening, speaking and grammar skills. The aim is to provide students with the tools and knowledge they will need to understand the latest trends in the worlds of Economics and International Business. (Level requested to participate fully is B2)
By the end of the course, students will have learnt how to:
- understand and use correctly specific language to describe economic trends, current trends in trade and performance on the stock exchange;
- speak about the latest developments in the global economy and the advantages and disadvantages of collaborative consumption: the sharing economy, the access economy, the gig economy and the creative economy;
- use the correct terminology to describe crowdfunding, peer-to-peer lending and strategies for successful start-ups;
- speak about the opportunities offered by e-commerce to tap into international markets;
- accurately describe the different phases of the customer journey and strategies for customer care, service, experience and satisfaction;
- understand the importance of cross-cultural communication and the differences in business approach with regard to ‘high-context cultures’ (e.g. China, France) and ‘low-context cultures’ (e.g. U.S.A, Germania);
- describe the USPs of the brand 'Made in Italy' and analyse Italy's competitiveness in the global marketplace;
- assess the opportunities offered by pursuing a career in international trade.
Students MUST have passed the B1 computer test at the CLA before attempting Lingua Inglese esame. (Information concerning the B1 test is available on the Centro Linguistico di Ateneo website http://www.unive.it/cla ).

A collection of readings and exercises will be available prior to each lesson. It is essential that students download this material from the Moodle Platform on the professor's homepage and bring it to each lesson. Writing and discussion activities will be done in class.
The lessons are held in English.The minimum level of English required to be able to fully understand the reading texts and to follow the lessons successfully is B2.
