BASQUE LANGUAGE AND CULTURE

The course is part of the common path of Languages, Civilizations and Language Sciences and trains students in European and especially Spanish linguistic diversity focusing on the study of a language and a minorized culture such as Basque. The course offers itself as a free choice teaching; in this way it can be attended by any student of the university.
The aim of the course is: to allow the student to know the historical, geographical and social aspects and contexts of the Basque language and culture. At the end of the course the student knows how to exhibit specific socio-cultural problems related to the studied language and knows the most suitable critical tools to contextualise, analyze and comment on literate texts and documents of various kinds and put them in relation with the most significant transformations related to the cultural areas of reference.

Knowledge and understanding:
- Have a general knowledge of the history of the Basque language.
- Know some important aspects of Basque culture.
- Know some problems of a minorized language in normalization phase.
2. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding:
- Knowing how to read a literary text or of a different nature linked to the Basque language and culture and contextualize the content in the studied cultural sphere.
- Know how to apply the acquired skills to the interpretation of different contexts of the minorized languages.

Interest in minority languages ​​and their socio-cultural contexts.

1. Teorie sulle origini. Limiti storici ed evoluzione della lingua.

2. Euskara jalgi hadi mundura. La nascita della letteratur e la letteratura classica.

3. La cultura orale. La Bertsolaritza.

4. Storia e cultura della prima metà del novecento.

5. Reinvenzione e rinascita negli anni 60. Nuova estetica e nuova canzone. La lingua standard e la prima letteratura moderna.

6. La cultura degli anni novanta ad oggi.

7. La società basca attuale.


LETTORATO DI BASCO
(SOLO PER LT1090, STUDENTI DI LT1100, 6 CREDITI, NON DEVONO SEGUIRE IL LETTORATO)

L'obiettivo del corso è prendere contatto con la grammatica del basco ed esperimentare con le costruzioni linguistiche più semplici.
Alla fine del corso lo studente sarà capace di utilizzare espressioni familiari di uso quotidiano, presentare se stesso e altri, porre domande su dati personali e rispondere a domande analoghe (il luogo dove abita, le persone che conosce, le cose che possiede).

Come bibliografia useremo il libro di testo “Arian”.

The verification of learning takes place through an oral test with an approximate duration of 20-30 minutes. In the test the student must demonstrate knowledge of the topics developed during the course exposing them in a formal way.
The students of the 12 credits course (LT1090) will do, together with the oral exam, a written Basque language test. The exam will last two times and will be used to test the basic linguistic skills during the language course.
