This course aims to provide a general understanding of both the historical and cultural context and the literary output of the first half of the Albanian XXth century, with particular regard to the literature that developed immediately after the announcement and the formation of the Albanian state and until the Second World War and the advent of the dictatorship.

The course will provide students with the knowledge of the literary phenomena of the first half of Albanian XXth century, through the study of the texts of the period examined. It will stimulate in students the capacity to use critical and methodological tools to analyze the texts proposed during the course.
It is required a minimum knowledge of Albanian Language in order to read literary texts.
This course aims to sketch the essential lines of the cultural context underlying Albanian literary production that developed immediately after the formation of the Albanian state and until the mid-twentieth century. It is a period in which literature leaves the nationalist and patriotic propaganda and is projected to modernism, with the development of new trends in poetry and the creation of realist prose.
Various critical methodologies will be presented, in order to allow students of the Albanian Literature 2 Mod. 2 course, to consolidate analytical and philological skills in relation to the literary texts examined. Students of the History of Albanian Culture course will study the major lines of development in the history of Albanian literature, with particular attention to the dynamics of literary epochs and the historical and cultural context.

The exam, which will be written, will verify the knowledge of the module content and the capacity to interpret the text studied during the course. The exam will include 10 questions (general questions and questions on the proposed texts).
